Stainless steel is suitable for engraving and paint filling, abrasive etching, laser marking and as a substrate for vinyl letters.
Grade 304 is preferred, however grade 316 (marine grade) can be used.
As stainless steel is tough to machine, light cuts and multiple passes are usually needed – hence the fairly high cost of jobs using the method.
